Are You Spiritual or Are You Religious?

When I was a kid I was VERY religious. As I grew older, I became more spiritual. The transformation was something that my religious friends didn’t appreciate. However, as an educated adult I didn’t really have a choice. Later in life I found it interesting that some people would discredit education and information in relation to religion. I found it mind-boggling that they would then turn around and say that the most important part of your development as a young adult is your education. Often times this would happen within the same conversation. It was almost like they were just reciting talking points without thinking about what they were saying.

Then came the other representations of God and spirituality. Were those who believed in traditions and gods different from me doomed because they thought differently? Were they wrong because they believed differently or were we all just traveling different roads to the same destination?

In my heart and in my spirit I knew that the answer was that they were not wrong because they believed differently. They were not somehow flawed for practicing different ways to honor what we believed to be a higher power. They were my sisters and my brothers and we were in fact traveling different roads to the same destination. That is where being spiritual instead of being religious entered my life.

The Spiritual Conversion

I guess my education and all of that professor-taught deductive reasoning took its toll on my childhood beliefs and turned me into a spiritual man.

In the Bible, there is a verse that says:

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.1 Corinthians 13:11

I think that even the ancient teachers of the Christian faith were calling for our continued growth and expansion. To those great teachers and to the great teachers of all faiths, I hear you and I step fully into the expansion of faith, understanding, inclusion and belief.

My question to you is: What will you do with that call? They say that once you have the information, you are responsible for all future outcomes in relation to the information received. The world is waking up. Humanity is waking up. Spirituality and religion are evolving into a higher mindfulness and higher human consciousness. You can fight it, but it’s going to happen anyway. Will you be a part of the evolution, or will you be one of those left behind? The choice is yours. Choose wisely.
