How To Discover Your Why?

Written by on December 10, 2015

Everyone wants to be the next (Fill in the Blank). Everyone wants to be great and change the world. I have seen and bought expensive program after program and high priced course after high priced course and the one thing that I have noticed is that NONE of it works unless you have a strong enough why.

I used a fraction of a meditation program called I want my Manifestations Now by Dr. Pillai and the practice of visualization I learned from Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. I visualized and guided meditated my way through month after month. I left home at 7 and got home at 6. I didn’t see my family at ALL! This was not the life that I signed up for. Some would say that it was a little out there, but I was desperate!

My “WHY” was so strong that at times I found myself crying through my daily visualization practices. I had to spend more time with my family! I HAD TO!

Before we get into how to discover your why let’s get into how to know that you haven’t found your why. A lot of people that buy those expensive programs, like myself, buy them for a fix. WE buy them for a solution and then, also like me, we get through a week or two and don’t finish the course of don’t apply the information. Why you ask? Because our “WHY” isn’t big enough. So how do you know if your “WHY” is not big enough? Well here are a few things that you will find yourself saying or doing if your “WHY” is not big enough.

  • I don’t have enough money for that class or course or….
  • I don’t have time to learn something new.
  • I’m too tired to try, learn or do anything new.
  • I’m too old to do that.
  • I’m too young to do that.

If you are making any excuses (along with the countless additional options) about why you can’t reach your goals or even try to have the life that you want then your why isn’t big enough. Where is your why on the scale of “WHY-ABILITY” ? Only you know the answer to that question. So let’s just say that you have discovered that your why isn’t big enough. What now?

You need to find a why that is big enough!

Here are three things that I ask myself to learn how to discover a big enough “WHY”

Question 1: What Do You Breathe?  (By that I mean, what are you naturally good at?)

There is usually something that we all have been told that we are amazing at doing and it is usually something we do without thinking about it. It is usually something that we find as easy as breathing. (For example for me it is performing, singing or speaking in front of people. Even in childhood I loved to perform and present and people told me that I was good at it. I was paid to do it as a professional singer and even made it to Broadway and Television using my gift. It was/is as easy as Breathing, and it serves others when I do it.)

Question 2: What Do You Want To Achieve? (Is basically the one thing that bugs you about the planet or society right now that you know that you could change…)

Do you go to a restaurant and say things like “This food is not as good as I could have made it.” or do you see someone running a business and think. “With just a few changes this business could skyrocket in growth.” or do you see something else in life where the answer seems obvious, but nobody else seems to see it? If you see it then that thing is your Excalibur that thing is your calling. The reasons why others can’t see it is because it’s not theirs to see. It’s your calling! (For example my want to achieve was the idea that no matter who you are you can make a difference. I want people to understand that you are powerful and limitless no matter what age, color, or gender you are. If you can see it you can be it!)

Question 3: What Do You Want To Leave As Your Legacy? (By that I mean. What do you want them to say about you at your funeral. How do you want to be remembered?

This is what I call the eulogy speech. What do you want “Them” to say about you when you are gone. What lasting effect do you want to have on the world or your family? (For example, more than anything I wanted my children and my future family members to have an alternative to the current media. I wanted them to have thoughts and ideas from their father, grand father or great grandfather that showed them how I lived my life and overcame obstacles and how they can too. The fact that it helps more than just my family is my legacy.)

Combine them all together and figure out your strong why. Mine strong why is that I must be about the business of creating media, music and writings that change the way that people see themselves for the better. I want more people to live the life of their dreams instead of a life of their fears. I am about eliminating the top 5 regrets of the dying. I to rid the planet of these regrets starting with my children.

What’s your strong “WHY”?
